From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season are included.
The Warrior Group Revealed
Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of characters who will separate from the main group to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.
This warrior group features Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.
This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.
Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might seem mismatched, but the events of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose death initiated the story’s plot—used the foes for his personal gain, invading the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.
The traitor then settled his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
- Yet, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the team enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- Teor is marked for death by the family.
This means them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in search of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
From episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Explorers and Schemers tables.
Viewers can expect finding out which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
